The Importance of Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It determines how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood all the way through adulthood.
Racism

Racism can be defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their racial or ethnic group.
Those who often experience racism typically belong to a minority or marginalized group.
Antimicrobial Resistance

The rapid rise of “superbugs” is a serious threat to modern medicine. These superbugs are germs that are resistant to antibiotics, making them harder to cure by traditional methods. People irresponsibly taking antibiotics are accidently creating superbugs because they don’t know how serious this issue is.
The Issue of Drugs in Philly

Drug abuse is the excessive use of psychoactive drugs, such as alcohol, pain medications, or illegal drugs.
We hope to bring awareness to the community in Philadelphia about making a change when it comes to drug abuse.
The Impacts of Pollution

Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. Some of the different types of pollution are air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, and radioactive pollution. Pollution of all kinds is an issue because it negatively impacts people, animals, and the environment.
Death by Drug Overdose

Drug overdose is the over consumption of any substance that could cause harm to one's physical or mental state.
We hope to create a safe space for those who may abuse drugs, while also providing increased access to harm reduction services.
Racial Discrimination

Racial discrimination is any discrimination against any individual on the basis of their skin color, basis, or ethnic origin. It occurs when a person is treated less favorably, or not given the same opportunities as others in a similar situation.
Human Trafficking in Ohio

Kidnapping is the forceful taking of someone and also is a major problem in Ohio. Nearly 21,000 (exact number 20,617) people go missing in Ohio per year. These are not isolated events. Human trafficking which is the wide scale abduction of humans for the purpose of forced labour or sexual slavery for one's own betterment or gain. Human trafficking is the root cause of many kidnappings and missing persons cases as a whole.
Domestic Violence Against Women

Domestic violence is defined as a pattern of controlling and coercive behavior that can be physical, emotional, economic, stalking and harassment, or sexual in nature. Domestic violence is a global problem. Domestic violence is never the victim's fault.
Survivor

Domestic violence is a common problem in the United States, affecting an estimated 10 million people over the course of a single year.
Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.
Protect Against Discrimination

Gender inequality is the legal, social and culture situation in which sex and/or gender determine different rights and dignity for women and men. 30% of women are affected by gender inequality whereas only 25% of men are affected. Gender inequality is a global issue.
Police Brutality

Police Brutality is the excessive use of force by officers on citizens. Among the African American community in the U.S, police brutality has become one of the most prominent issues to date.
We hope to bring reform to the type of training given to these officers while also creating a safe space for victims of these traumatic event to grow and heal from their victimization .
Sexual Assault Prevention

Sexual assault is the sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent of the victim.
Some forms of sexual assault include: attempted rape, fondling or unwanted sexual touching, forcing a victim to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetrating the perpetrator's body.
